Yukinobu Chai NP-30H Niibori Spruce/Indian Rosewood 1982 Japan

Up for sale is a wonderful vintage classical guitar made by one of leading Japanese luthiers Yukinobu Chai. This model is called NP-30H and was made for Niibori Guitar School. Back to the day when classical guitar was very popular in Japan, Niibori was placing special orders at leading luthiers, which included Sumio Kurosawa, Hideo Ida, Masaki Sakurai and others; but apparently the majority of Niibori-ordered guitars was produced by Yukinobi Chai workshop (Tokyo). NP-30H belongs to high-end Prime series, priced 300,000 yen back to the day, which was very expensive. The year is missing, but comparison of Niibori S/N to other sources reveals it was made in early 80s, I dare to assume 1982.

Very high quality woods are used here - top is selected high-altitude spruce, back and sides are master-grade Indian rosewood, Neck is genuine mahogany with ebony reinforcement stripe, fretboard is ebony. Bracing design is symmetric 7-fan. Scale is 650 mm, nut width is 50 mm.

Excellent condition for a 45 old year guitar - there is a general feel of use, a small lacquer crack in top-neck joint area, a couple dings on top, slight discolouration on the back and that's it. No wood cracks, no repairs. Geometry is fine, strings are set at comfortable height with the option to lower them, if needed. Back of the neck is in perfect condition. New set of D'Addario EJ45 is installed.

Sound is mature and rounded, with cello-like basses, well-pronounced mids and sweet trebles. Overall, it's a concert-grade guitar which embodies Japanese tonal clarity and bold Spanish character. Please ask for a demo and I'll record one for you. Comes in vintage hardshell case.
