Squier 40th Anniversary Tele Vintage Edition is far more than just a “better Affinity”. Beautifully made, visually outstanding, and after our work on it, a seriously strong Tele with character and vintage vibe.
Here is the original PR text from Squier first:
“The first instruments to bear the Squier name were launched in 1982. The idea was to offer genuine Fender® design at affordable prices for beginners. 40 years later, the entry-level brand is still highly popular. We celebrate this with the Squier 40th Anniversary Collection. It includes special edition versions of the Telecaster®, Stratocaster®, Jazzmaster®, Precision Bass® and Jazz Bass® models. All are available as Gold Edition and Vintage Edition. The Squier® 40th Anniversary Telecaster® Vintage Edition has plenty of soul. A tribute instrument with classic features for Squier fans and players who love a refined retro vibe: aged-look chrome hardware, anodized aluminum pickguard, maple neck with vintage tint, engraved anniversary neck plate, and satin finish on neck and body. This Tele® is a tribute to the Squier catalog and its many previous generations. The performance is there, too. The Tele features a slim, player-friendly C-profile neck, vintage-style tuners and a string-through-body bridge with three saddles. Fender-designed Alnico 5 single coils deliver that classic, crisp Tele tone.”
And yes – this Tele really is something special.
The Nyatoh body, similar in character to mahogany, gives it a slightly fuller feel and a different resonance response compared to typical lightweight Tele constructions. When you remove the neck and pickguard, you immediately notice: this does not feel like ordinary mass production. No stamps, no stickers inside the body – somehow special.
The matte finish looks very classy, and the factory-aged hardware is really well done. Together with the black binding and black anodized aluminum pickguard, it creates a distinctive look with plenty of vintage character.
As soon as you pick it up, the comfortable satin finish of the neck stands out. At around 3.7 kg, it is not a lightweight, but it feels very solid and well balanced in the hands.
It is fitted with the same Fender Designed Alnico single coils as the Classic Vibe series – absolutely usable pickups with that classic crisp Tele tone.
The factory fretwork, however, was not usable. That is why we carefully leveled, recrowned and polished the frets. Now it plays cleanly, directly and noticeably better than it did in its original condition.
This Tele is now genuinely fun to play.
