Yessssssss…. Fellow Fender Thumpers take a look at what we have here!!! How about an F’N MAPLE CAP Tele Bass Neck… WITH a set of 1966 LOLLIPOP TUNERS installed at the factor. Can we say Unicorn or what? Oh yeah.
So these early ones, they didn’t even have a decal established yet.. they were taking a part of the Coronado “Bass” decal and adding it.
Here are Fenders words directly off of their website explaining:

This first Telecaster Bass version had three different headstock decals. The earliest was a regular silver Telecaster guitar logo with the word “bass” added underneath; only prototypes are known to have this decal. The second decal was the larger black Telecaster Bass logo, with “Bass” in the same script style as “Fender.” The third and most common decal had the silver Fender script with the words “Telecaster Bass” in a sans-serif font underneath.

The body this neck was born with is listed separately. It was routed for two jazz pick ups along its journey…. But has 85% of the original finish remaining and if the right woodworker or luthier got their hands on it…. If somebody got both of these… you could bring her back for sure!!

The reason I mentioned the body is because I can personally attest to playing this neck while they were still together.. The neck felt great and responded incredibly. it has tons of wear on the fretboard board and on the back…. The headstock almost looks sanded down… but it’s not, just heavily worn as the decal is still intact. I’ve showed a picture of the last five or six frets as the wood has darkened and really emphasizes the cap laying on top. The frets are in decent condition with life left. Maybe a crown or file in the not so near future. The lollipop tuners came factory and were used on 66 Jazz Basses… but the remainder around the factory were also used on the early Telecaster basses.
This isn’t as rare as hens teeth.. those are the prototypes… but these are a CLOSE 2nd. One of y’all have been waiting FOREVER for this to pop up and become available…well, HAVE AT IT!!!
