The Academy Series was conceived and developed by Taylor Guitars Master Builder Andy Powers as "the ideal guitar for beginners to keep playing without giving up."
It features the same Taylor neck construction as the higher-end models, a slim, easy-to-grip 1-11/16-inch nut width, and a 24-7/8-inch short scale length with just the right amount of tension. The body includes an armrest to reduce stress on the right elbow.
The top is Sitka spruce, and the sides and back are layered sapele.

There are scratches and dents on the body, and the metal parts show some tarnish.
