Kazuo Yairi YC10 1997 Classical Guitar
Besides being known all around the world for making Alvarez Yairi guitars, Kazuo Yairi’s factory was making a whole range of models never sold in USA or Europe. Among many others, these were spruce top H (Hauser) models and T (Torres) models. Models H5 & H6, T5 & T 6 had laminated rosewood b/s, while models H10 & T10 has solid Indian Rosewood b/s, while H15 & T15 had solid Brazilian Rosewood b/s.
Based on Ramirez blueprints YC models are made by Yairi’s workshop since mid1970s until now. They were made for Japanese domestic market and have always been of much higher grade than Alvarez Yairi CY models distributed in the West. If you start playing this YC10 guitar you will know this truth right away. You will understand why these YC models are not allowed for sale in the West.
In 1997 this YC10 guitar was priced 2 times higher than CY140 model sold in the West.
It was effectively priced 2 times higher than these guitars:
Currently distributed in the USA, Alvarez Yairi CY models are no match to guitar you are looking at. CY models are simply made for the money importers are willing to pay. Sold for $2,599 "good looking" model YC75M is nothing but "beginner to intermediate student" level instrument.
Currently Yairi’s top of regular line models is Ramirez style YC20 and (630mm scale) Torres style YCT20, both made only with Spruce tops and both priced 50% higher than Cedar top model YC12 (distributed in the West as model YC75M). If these models were distributed in the USA both would be priced around $3,750.00 USD or higher. YC20 and YCT20 are the only models in Yairi's lineup described as "high performance" guitars, because their Japanese makers wouldn't dare to describe them as "concert" ones.
US distributors of Takamine guitars have quite different "code of ethics". They advertise beginner's grade model C132S as "concert guitar" and are selling it for $1,950.00. Such brand new Takamine C3132S guitar is a "sad joke" comparing to this Yairi YC10 from 1997.
Even though this guitar was made on Jose Ramirez blueprints, it is more of Kazuo’s own creation and shouldn’t be considered “just a copy” since it can easily rival original Ramirez guitars. Kazuo Yairi is well known around the world for making “copies” that sound better than “originals”. And this YC10 guitar proves just that.
It offers great volume, super response and very sweet and romantic (Spanish) tonality. Despite being made with Cedar top it offers exceptional treble note clarity, almost Spruce-like. Basses are relatively deep, almost metallic, rich with overtones yet quite clean at the same time. All notes are very well separated. While chords are played you get a great feeling of transparency.
With all these traits, this guitar can greatly help every devoted student to reach the highest imaginable level of guitar mastery.
This guitar cosmetically remains in “very good for its age” condition. These cosmetic imperfections include a few very small dents and a couple of very light scratches within the finish on its top, a couple light string burns below the bridge and couple light abrasions on the tip of the headstock.
Very importantly neck is straight, while fingerboard and leveled frets remain in very good condition. Original tuners still work fine.

WHEN YOU BUY ANY GUITAR, YOU MUST ANTICIPATE TAKING IT TO YOUR LOCAL GUITAR SHOP FOR FINAL ADJUSTMENTS CALLED “SETUP”. DEPENIDNG ON YOUR PLAYING TECHNIQUE, THIS SETUP ON USED GUITARS MAY INCLUDE NEW CUSTOM MADE NUT AND SADLLE. IF YOU HEAR STRING BUZZ IT DOESN’T MEAN THAT GUITAR IS DEFECTIVE. IF YOU PLAY HARD ENOUGH ALL BASS STRINGS WILL BUZZ OVER THE FRETS, UNLESS THEY ARE SUSPENDED VERY FAR FROM THE FINGERBOARD. UNLESS YOU PLAY QUITE GENTLY, YOU CAN’T HAVE LOW ACTION AND NO BUZZES. KEEP IN MIND THAT CELLO-LIKE BASSES ON HIGH GRADE CLASSICAL GUITARS HAVE THEIR NATURAL “BUZZ”.
