Emperador (Teisco) 335-style late-60s hollow body.

Literature is scarce but these were almost certainly made by ex-Teisco craftsmen following the Kawai takeover in 1967.

Emperador (an importer tag) solid body, classical and jazz-style guitars were exported to the U.S. and other territories from Japan through the 1960s and 70s.

This one is rather rare and captivating...

Condition-wise...

Apart from being finished in one of the most vibrant eye-popping greens you will ever witness, this one appears fully original. Get a load of that super checkerboard binding to the neck and top.

There is one noticeable scratch to the top and a graze to the back of the neck - though the latter really doesn't interfere with handling. (See photos)

This said, overall it's incredibly well preserved. While many 60s hollow body guitars have simply not survived for a variety of reasons - climate and fragility foremost - this one has obviously been cared for.

Sound and Play-wise...

Nice heavy old roller bridge, vintage enclosed tuners and the original Bigsby-style vibrato all function perfectly.

The sound from these pickups goes from smooth to jarring - that authentic 60s jangle is on tap here in spades.

We just had it back from our tech. New strings and full set up. He rewired the back pickup since the wiring was frail. Now it performs beautifully with a super smooth low action.

In Summary...

A rare vintage MIJ 335-style hollow body in remarkably good shape. (And an outrageous green!)

In fact it plays and sounds just as cool as its wild vintage looks suggest.
