AMPTEK WOLFDRIVER

A unique take on the classic Motown Wolfbox, the Wolf Driver is a hybrid passive/ active direct box design giving flexible functionality in the studio. Featuring 1960s high-ratio tube preamp type input transformer and 1950s Raytheon germanium, the Wolf Driver is a killer addition to any studio looking for high quality, colored analog direct injection. Housed inside a vintage enclosure with Switchcraft 1/4" jacks, vintage CTS pots and a vintage ADC/Switchcraft XLR connector to round out the old-school authenticity.

Functionality

Run It Passive - With the Drive switch flipped down, the circuit is an authentic, true to form passive Wolfbox with toggleable input attenuation into a high ratio 50k:200 step-down transformer. (No power required). The Attenuate switch toggles a variable input pad for reducing hot inputs, for synths, amplifiers, or sending line outputs from an interface into this to send into a mic pre.

Run it Active - With the Drive Switch flipped up, signal is instead input into a 1MΩ FET buffer before hitting the germanium drive circuit (the attenuation circuit can still be toggled prior to the signal entering the Drive circuit). "Drive" level control is placed between the buffer and the drive section for dialing the right amount of additional warm germanium coloration before being sent into the transformer. Designed for standard center negative supplies, it can run at up to 18V. ***Not phantom powered. Requires clean DC, PSU not included***
