Lyon and Healy Style A Professional Mandolin 1920-1924 Natural

Here’s a stunning, high-quality Style A Professional carved-top acoustic mandolin from Lyon & Healy of Chicago, renowned for creating some of the finest carved mandolins ever made.

This mandolin is in excellent condition for its age and features the asymmetrical 2-point body and shorter “classical” scale typical of Style A models produced after 1921. It has a spruce top, flamed maple back and sides, a mahogany neck, and an extended ebony fretboard with a 13" scale. The 5-ply body binding adds an elegant touch. It also boasts a scroll headstock, a vulcanized and patented fiber pickguard, and a lyre tailpiece with a custom made brace. The mandolin does not include a pull-out rest. The serial number 1235 is written on the label inside. This mandolin contains a unique and beautiful painted rose design on the back of the body.

I put a small shim under the bridge which you can keep or adjust as you wish. Currently strung with Thomastik Infeld Vienna String (Medium), which are a perfect fit for this mandolin. Overall, the mandolin is in excellent condition. It comes with a period-correct, purple-lined hardshell case in good shape, although the case has come a bit loose at the hinge.
