Vintage 1969 Matsumoku MIJ Aspen Single Cut Les Paul Piano Black LP Aged Gold HSC 7.1 lb

Here’s a very rare and original Matsumoku made in Japan “Aspen” model Les Paul style semi hollow body 6-string electric guitar. The piano black finish (some finish checking) is gorgeous and is really hard to find with original parts and Maxon pickups with great vibe. All electronics function well (upgraded with USA Switchcraft jack) and the guitar plays great with low action.

These were made by Matsumoku (same company that made Ibanez guitars) in the 1960s-70s and are very nice quality instruments.

I’ve played this along side similar Greco and Ibanez guitars from the time period, and I prefer the Aspen with its semi-hollow chambered body, making it rather light at just 7.1 Lb.

The build quality is impressive, with naturally aged cream binding on the body and neck, pearloid block inlays, and original closed-gear gold tuners.

The metal parts have natural play wear with oxidation consistent with age, and the gold plated Maxon stamped pickups show desirable patina and relic wear.

The neck plays easily with a 7.25” - 9.5” compound rosewood fingerboard radius, 43mm nut, gorgeous block pearl inlays, cream bound neck with medium .89”/.95” profile thickness, and .0845mm thick frets.

This is one of the only Aspen LP guitars I’ve ever seen that is original and complete and features the more rare smaller Gibson style open book headstock shape.
