EMS Synthi AKS

Stunning Synthi AKS for sale fully-serviced and in superb condition. This example appears to have had a very quiet life and has been very well looked after; unusually, it required comparatively-little work to bring it up to full operational order. Dr Huw says it has the most rock-solid tuning he's yet seen. It will be supplied with a replacement set of EMS Cornwall patch pins for reliable operation.

In excellent working order following a thorough overhaul and servicing. Dr Huw added a power supply mod recommended by James Walker to reduce hum and improve stability: the oscillators are incredibly stable - the best we've witnessed from a Synthi.

We acquired this via a very experienced Synthi engineer - he was amazed by the condition and stability even before any work had been done, and advised me that this was 'a keeper'. There are very few signs of age, and the synth is in superb condition for its age - some oxidation to the metal catches, handle bracket and hinges - no apparent significant marks, scratches or damage to the internal surfaces - a few scuffs to the exterior of the Spartanite case only.

The keyboard was the only area to show signs of age - the black paint was worn and flaking - it did not appear to be through wear, but possibly some sort of (sweat-related?) chemical reaction. This has been rectified courtesy of a new keyboard surface from EMS Cornwall.

While everything has been done to ensure it's as it should be, and the synth is behaving flawlessly in testing, this is a vintage Synthi and some occasional foibles may be expected. We take the view that servicing on these units should be sympathetic - recapping where necessary, but also keeping as many original parts in the audio path to retain character, even if it results in occasional minor flaws. A little noise may be possible from some pots when it's not been used for a while, but this will clear with use.

These synths should be used regularly for best performance - just like a classic car or bike needs a run out to stay in good shape.
