You are purchasing a Boss PW-2 Power Driver effect pedal guitar (or bass).
Produced only from 1996 to 1998, the PW-2 is one of Boss's rarest pedals. At the time, it was poorly received, but these days it has something of a cult following for it's unique EQ curve and borderline experimental tone.
The Power Driver is a distortion/overdrive circuit unlike any of Boss's other overdrives; there are no clipping diodes. It is just 4 opamps smashing into each each other, creating a tone so distorted that it's nearly a square wave at full gallop.
The EQ section is also unusual, with it's infamously named "Fat" and "Muscle" knobs. I personally do not find these names confusing; after all, how descriptive is the ubiquitous "Tone" knob? When you actually use the pedal, Fat and Muscle does sound like the right metaphor! To me, this rare pedal is for the truly creative artist who wants to explore.
I have heard people describe this pedal as "Boss's Big Muff", but I don't think that's quite right. It's weirder than that, in a good way!
The pedal itself is in great condition for a 30 year old pedal! It functions perfectly. No box or manual.
I am selling this and other pedals as part of an effort to clear out all this gear that I have no time to play these days! Thank you for your interest
