For sale: a completely original 1974 Gibson Les Paul Custom in excellent condition.
Woods and Body Construction
“Pancake” (sandwich) body: Typical of that vintage, the body consists of two layers of mahogany
Maple top
Neck and Fretboard
Maple fretboard: This is the distinctive feature. It offers a very crisp, bright attack.
Rectangular mother-of-pearl inlays.
3-Piece Mahogany Neck: In 1974, the neck was still predominantly made of mahogany, divided into three longitudinal sections for greater stability
The Volute: On the back of the neck, at the junction with the headstock, there is a characteristic protrusion (volute) to reinforce the guitar’s most fragile point.
“Fretless Wonder” frets in excellent condition
Electronics and Pickups
“T-Top” Humbucker Pickups: Originally equipped with two pickups featuring the famous letter “T” embossed on the coils (visible when the metal covers are removed). Alnico V magnets, moderate output (approximately 7.5k–8k ohms), and a very dynamic, gritty sound—perfect for the rock of that era.
Potentiometers: Original CTS potentiometers from that era.
Hardware and Aesthetics
Gold-Plated Hardware: In keeping with Custom tradition, all metal parts (tuners, bridge, and pickup covers) are gold-plated.
“Witch Hat” Knobs: The volume and tone knobs feature the distinctive black “witch hat” shape with a metal insert, typical of the early 1970s.
Tuners: Gold Grover Rotomatic tuners.
Original hard case included.
