Cosmetically a little rough around the edges, but a great-playing and unique sounding instrument.

Very fun short lived model from the Mexican Deluxe lineup. P bass neck with block inlays and matching headstock, 51 style control plate and no pickguard. The pickup is two jazz bass pickups wired like a humbucker.

When I got it the pickup was dead so I had it rewound by Romain Pickups in London Ontario. He did a cool job winding it asymmetrically (one coil is 6ish ohms and the other is 3ish ohms) and it sounds great. I will include the stock preamp but it SUCKS. I replaced the stock wiring with a single volume control and a Jtex Distiller (resonant filter control like on a synth, made in Montreal). For cavity space reasons, the distiller control is in the traditional volume knob position and the volume knob is at the back.

The sound is somewhere between a G&L L-2500 and a Stingray, or if you've never played one of those think extremely fat and smooth jazz bass middle position without the mid scoop. I did two rehearsals with it this week and it really cut through two busy low-tuned guitars and lots of effects. I think it sounds and plays great but I just purchased a new EBMM Stingray that I will be using going forward.
