Guild D-40 2003 - Gloss
The guitar plays smoothly up and down the neck with excellent projection and balance. Structurally, it is rock solid and stable. Given its 20+ years of being loved and played, it shows honest cosmetic wear consistent with its age, including small dings and light surface marks here and there. There are two specific cosmetic lines to note, which are common for solid-wood acoustics of this era:On the top: There is a faint, shallow diagonal line in the spruce top (see photo) which appears to be a cosmetic finish checking crack in the nitrocellulose lacquer rather than a wood split. On the bottom side: There is a tight, straight vertical line running right through the strap button area (see photo). This is a typical center-seam separation line where the two side woods meet at the tail block, caused by natural wood movement over the decades. It is completely stable, smooth to the touch, and does not impact playability or structural integrity. The frets have plenty of life left, and the guitar is completely ready to play straight out of the case.
