About this listing
1972 Fender Mustang in its original, very rare Candy Apple Red Racing Stripe Competition finish. Except for the pickups, all of the electronics are original. The potentiometers can be dated to 1971, which matches the February 1972 stamp on the neck. The pickguard is glued on, so we cannot verify exactly which pickups are installed. In any case, they sound fantastic! Plugged in, this Mustang reveals powerful and punchy sound. The fretboard may have been refretted. If so, the job was done very authentically, with shorter tang frets as was done in the old days. In addition, the 5, 7, 9, 12, and 15 inlays have been replaced with mother of pearl dots. Of course, it shows the typical signs of a guitar that is over 50 years old, but it plays perfectly and delivers a genuine vintage sound. A great instrument with a bold character! This Mustang has been checked and set up by our tech.
