About this listing
For sale is an AKAI GX 77 6 head 4 track auto reverse Reel to Reel tape deck recorder. It is in good to very good condition albeit with some minor scuffs and marks as shown. Refer to pics. It has been tested and the heads were cleaned and demagnetized for the best sound ever. I did clean the unit up the best of my ability although it’s still not perfect. The mic inputs were tested and they work as well as the other inputs. The pots and switches were sprayed and the metal parts were lubed as well. Both channels work good as well. This unit uses the DC motors which means when the supply or take up real, starts to get full rewind or fast-forward gradually slows down near the end, which is considered a manufacturing “quirk” from AKAI. The sound when recording at 3 3/4 IPS is very clear and better and wider sounding than the Source recording from, depending on the type of tape used and even better at 7 1/2 IPS. The heads are also in very good shape which is obviously why the quality is awesome as well. PICTURED REELS NOT INCLUDED!!!IMPORTANT NOTE: The price is $849.99 and priced to sell. This will be the last GX-77 offered for the foreseeable future. The quality of this deck is awesome and I love it. However, it has gotten to the point to where I can no longer put up anymore time money and labor finding and restoring these particular units if they’re not going to sell. I will be looking into other options.
