The combination of mahogany back and sides with an Adirondack spruce top, together with the techniques of Collings' Traditional Series, ensures that this Collings delivers the loud, clear sound a dreadnought is meant to have! Designed and built to both sound and feel like the most sought-after pre-war guitars, they offer a slightly looser, more broken-in response and tone.
The bracing and wood selection are carefully adjusted in weight and thickness to produce a voice with warm, rounded highs and a fuller, more present low-midrange, while retaining a fast attack and strong projection.
Beyond their tonal character, Traditional models also stand out visually thanks to their classic appointments. These include MOP inlays, custom wooden purfling, and a matching rosette. The body is finished in an ultra-thin nitrocellulose lacquer, contributing to an open resonance and authentic vintage feel.
Additionally, these guitars feature an abbreviated soundboard graft (tongue brace) and a unique neck construction specifically developed to complement the looser feel and distinct voicing of the Traditional Series, paired with the characteristic Traditional neck carve. In short: a true bluegrass beast!
This instrument has been carefully inspected for originality, condition and playability, then set up to our Gold Standard by a luthier. We make sure it arrives in your hands exactly as it should: sounding its best, playing effortlessly and ready to be enjoyed from the very first note.
