For sale: Hand made African jembe ✔️
Basic Information about the Djembe
Origin: The djembe is believed to have been invented in the 12th century by the Mandinka tribe of what is now Mali.
Construction: The drum has a distinctive goblet shape. Traditionally, it is carved from a single piece of hardwood and covered with goatskin.
Sound: The djembe is played barehanded, producing three basic notes of varying pitch: a deep bass note, a mid-tone note, and a high-pitched slap.
Cultural Significance: Historically, the djembe was used for communication over long distances, during ceremonies, rituals, and festivals, as well as to accompany dances and storytelling. The name "djembe" comes from the Bamana phrase "Anke djé, anke bé," meaning "all come together in peace."
