We have here a super rare El Degas MT-19 model from the early 70's. I'm guessing that it was one of their top of the line offerings. This is the only one I have ever seen. A real treasure for El Degas fans.
The guitar is a very close copy of a vintage D-45, right down to the arrow-like carving in the back of the neck at the bottom of the headstock.
The abalone inlay on the neck and around the body & sound hole are beautifully done, and it sure appears to be real abalone rather than plastics.
This guitar looks spectacular from every angle. Fit, finish and details are very nice. It's hard to see, but I believe it's a veneer construction. Naturally, there are some chips scratches and wear normal to a guitar of this age, but no major damage or repairs to report. It is solid and beautiful.
Two of the bridge string pegs appear to be replacements.
Playability is good and about on par with 70's era instruments from Japan such as Yamaha etc: Good playability at the nut and a fair bit more effort required near the sound hole. Frets are small-medium size.
The sound is deep and rich with a pleasing sustain as is expected from a matured 40+ year old instrument.
All in all, a lovely, hard to find guitar for anyone who wants the vibe of a D-45 for very little expense.
