1970s Hagstrom Jimmy D'Aquisto Archtop Electric Guitar Blonde Sweden w/ Case

Up for sale, a 1970's Hagstrom Jimmy D'Aquisto archtop electric guitar in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Crafted in Sweden as part of a collaboration between Hagstrom and famed luthier James D'Aquisto, this guitar features a 16" wide lower bout with a spruce top and figured birch back and sides. The instrument has a clear and defined acoustic tone, delivering sweet, vocal midrange through the original humbuckers. There’s a sparkle to the top end and warmth to the neck pickup without being boomy. The instrument weighs only 7lbs 8oz. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and strung with roundwound 11s, this Hagstrom has been dialed in for optimal playability.

The birch neck has a medium C profile with a hint of a soft V at the nut and a smooth gloss finish. The frets show sparingly little wear on the bound rosewood fretboard, with rounded pearl block inlays on the 25" scale. The nut measures 1 3/4" in width, and "Designed by James L. D'Aquisto" is printed on the pearl inlaid headstock. The tuners are the original Hagstrom gears with wavy stair step buttons.

The guitar retains all of the original hardware, with a chrome trapeze tailpiece, carved floating ebony bridge, and witch hat knobs. Aesthetically, this is a remarkably clean example with no notable wear on the body and only light surface patina on the tuners and tailpiece. One of the knobs is also missing its small insert, but that's the extent of it.

Under the tutelage of John D'Angelico, James D'Aquisto became one of the most prominent luthiers of the 20th century. As one of only two partnerships with D'Aquisto, this Jimmy model is a refined and elegant archtop crafted by Hagstrom in Sweden and ready for stage and studio use. This particular iteration of the Jimmy was only made between 1976 and 1979, and with less than 400 produced, it's a rare bird indeed.
