Up for sale is this Big Face fuzz, a clone of the Arbiter Fuzz Face in a pedalboard-friendly format, featuring top jacks, LED indicator, 9v power socket and a small compact enclosure painted in silver hammer with screen printed graphics.
It has 2 vintage NKT278 transistors, which are functionally identical to the NKT275 in this circuit. They have different current handling capabilities but both types are well within their limits for a Fuzz Face circuit.
The pedal features a bias control to compensate for temperature variations, and a “boost” switch to give a little extra gain if required. This boost toggles between a vintage style Fuzz Face (boost “off”) and Texas Square Face spec (boost “on”).
The Arbiter Fuzz Face is arguably the most famous, iconic, and recognizable guitar effects pedal ever created. Released in the autumn of 1966 by British company Arbiter Electronics, this legendary stompbox fundamentally defined the sound of psychedelic rock, blues-rock, and heavy metal. Its legacy is permanently cemented by its association with Jimi Hendrix, who made it his primary sonic weapon.
The crowning achievement of the Fuzz Face—particularly the germanium version—is its dynamic responsiveness to a guitar’s volume pot. With the pedal fully cranked, a guitarist can roll their guitar volume down from 10 to 7 and watch the wall of muddy sludge instantly melt into a sparkling, pristine, bell-like clean or glassy overdrive.
The Cesar Diaz Texas Square Face is a highly revered boutique fuzz pedal originally created in the late 1980s/early 1990s as a custom, heavy-duty replacement for Stevie Ray Vaughan’s failing vintage Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Faces.
