La Fender Elite Telecaster a été produite brièvement à l’usine Fullerton, en Californie, de 1983 à 1984. Elle est aujourd'hui considérée comme l'une des variantes de Tele les plus innovantes des années 1980 : elle avait l’ambition de repenser la Tele avec des fonctionnalités plus avancées : il s'agissait de la première conception Tele « moderne », c'était la première Fender à être équipée de micros actifs, de micros silencieux, d'un préampli avec commandes MDX et TBX préfigurant le modèle signature Eric CLAPTON (1988).
