The History:
This is a very special auction opportunity for two historic vintage mixing consoles made by Midas in late 70s for Mr. Frank Zappa for his 1979 European tour.

Just two consoles of its kind were made in order to record Zappa's tour and then mix it in the studio back in the US.

The Consules were purchased from a private collector in Russia. The consoles were unique in many ways.
The collector was a reach maverick who for some reason decided to join them together. He told me that his inspiration came after seeing the Korg MS 20 synthesiser, the shape of which gave him an idea. The guy spent an absolute fortune in adding various options to the desks. He put balanced insert cards in every channel of the desk. The cards were made and designed by Cyril Jones of the legendary Raindirk. I can't honestly say how much money got spent on that crazy project but it never got finished leaving the desks apart. There's a large metal frame that used to power up. It accommodates all channels including inputs, outputs, inserts and direct outs at the back wired to a large custom patch system made from eight Moses and Mitchell bantam patch-bays. All connections are made via D-Sub connectors. All cables are also included.

The EQ section has been designed by another great British company Audix and it looks and sounds very unique. Sowter wired custom transformers especially for this desk. The transformers apparently were designed by Quad Eight company in US but Zappa wanted them to be wired in UK, I guess in search for that British flavour.
The channels are a true work of art and a great example of combination between discrete and IC based technologies. I think the channels are the main attraction in this auction. There are 36 line/mic channels and 8 Aux channels. There are also two master channels. All channels are transformer driven.
