The XFMR VCA Expander is a 2-channel VCA design with an exponential response curve, delivering an extremely clean and transparent sound character with classic and fast attack-release times. It does not function without the XFMR VCA and directly connects to the XFMR VCA module, drawing the necessary power from it.
With its DC-coupled structure, the XFMR VCA Expander offers a wide range of applications for both audio and CV signals. It can be used as a standard VCA in your signal chain or for FM synthesis. The built-in CV Offset control plays a crucial role, especially when oscillators are used as operators in frequency modulation. To facilitate FM synthesis, the first CV input of the first VCA is automatically routed to the first CV input of the second VCA through the circuit board. However, when an external CV signal is connected to the first CV input of the second VCA, this automatic routing is interrupted, and the newly applied CV signal takes precedence.
Additionally, the XFMR VCA Expander is highly suitable for AM synthesis when placed directly before the XFMR VCA module or when both channels are connected in series. The dual CV inputs provide greater flexibility in your patches, while the white LEDs on the output allow you to visually monitor the audio signal.
