Performance Model by Kunio Sugai – Frusciante-Spec, One-Off Build (L.A. Builder)
This guitar was built by Kunio Sugai, an L.A.-based luthier known for his work with international artists including Michael Schenker, Frank Zappa, Dweezil Zappa, Steve Vai, Tom Morello, and Joe Walsh (Eagles). Sugai also built the Swinger ’69 for Kaminari Guitars.
This particular instrument is a one-off build made to the same specifications as the Performance model owned by John Frusciante of Red Hot Chili Peppers. Sugai has known Frusciante for many years, and the instrument follows the same neck profile, wood selection, and pickup design as Frusciante’s own guitars.
The neck has a thin, fast profile, and the pickups are handmade in Sugai’s workshop to reproduce the full tonal character of the selected tonewoods. This is a high-quality, fully handmade instrument with boutique-level craftsmanship.
