G SSL Type 4000 Custom Stereo Compressor MKII

Based on SSL 4K Bus Stereo Compressor, but with many additional options.

In completely impeccable condition, both operationally and cosmetically. Runs both on 115V and 230V.

The compressor sounds warm, transparent, and very musical, but when pushed harder it can give quite a pumping sound full of character. Housed in 2U 19'' housing.

It has two pairs of output transformers; a pair of vintage Siemens-Halske and a pair of OEP (Oxford) output transformers. (Luca Pretolesi has the same configuration of output transformers on his G-SSL)

The transformers are switched via relays.

It also has a more than useful dry-wet mix knob suitable for dialing in parallel compression. A feature that many SSL 4000 users wish the original SSL compressor had.

MIX DRY PAD is a -10 dB dry signal pad, but only in the Comp-Dry mix ratio and not at the compressor's inputs.

It features a sidechain filter with seven different frequencies, high passing at 60Hz, 90Hz, 110Hz, 130Hz, 160Hz, 200Hz, and 250Hz, two presets LOUD and MED borrowed from the API 2500 compressor, as well as an external sidechain insert (In and Out).

G-SSL MK-II is just like the original G-SSL MK-I, except it has some additional features such as:

• THRESHOLD and MAKEUP are 24-position rotary switches
• THRESHOLD BOOST switch increases the threshold (useful if the input signal is very low)
• VINTAGE-MODERN mode switch (In VINTAGE mode, the compressor behaves just like standard G-SSL and MODERN mode has fewer harmonics at high and mid frequencies).
• 4 ratio times; 1.5:1, 2:1, 4:1, 10:1
• 11 attack and release times (standard SSL 4000 times and times in between standard values)

In the demo video above, you can hear the original MKI, but nevertheless, it will give a good impression of how MKII sounds. You can as well hear it and see it in many of Lucas Pretolesi's mixes and videos.

Handmade with high-quality electronic parts: Elna Silmic II (audio signal path), Nichicon Muse Fine Gold, Panasonic FC, Wima, Talema Toroidal transformer, Metal film resistors 1%, Lorlin Rotary switches, Bourns MIX potentiometer.

All critical connections inside the device were made with silver-plated wire.
