Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
If you are looking for something a little different than you might want to consider this very unique and somewhat rare Altec 633A Dynamic microphone with a period cast aluminum 24A model Altec desk stand and short cable. The mic has a very unique design that was a signature part of Altec's line up and this particular mic was often nicknamed the "saltshaker" for obvious reasons.
It should be noted that this 633A has been tested and still has an original element but the output is non-existent so this should be used for display, prop or repair purposes only. This mic it will still make a very nice display piece anywhere in the home, office or studio due to it's above average physical condition. Will make a great piece for any prop set as well.
This unique looking microphone had a practical and very modern design for it's time that resembled the American D4T model mic but was twice the size and came in a beautiful hunter green paint scheme. The front screen closely resembled the 3 propeller aircraft of that time which gives the mic a bit of character.
As you can see in the detailed pics provided this mic shows typical wear for it's age. There is just a couple tiny chips, scuff marks and an engraving on the body. The body has zero dents or fractures however. This mic has a nice Altec chrome pivot mechanism (AD-10) with a lot of tension and pivots 200 degrees back and forth. The cable could run straight through the mechanism and down the stem of the stand or off to the side. I ran the cable down the stem on this example. It exits out the bottom and rear of the mic as intended originally.
The cable itself is 2 feet in length, soft, pliable with no damage and has an original older Cannon XLR end connector. You can attach any other XLR cable of choice for extra length. The cable is properly wired as well if you ever choose to put a working element inside the mic.
The 633A is an omni-directional microphone so it tended to pick up more background noise than the uni-directional mics of today. This mic is 100% complete but again, non-working.
MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE...
The desk stand is a period and somewhat rare Altec 24A model desk stand made with a heavy aluminum base and 6 inch chrome riser. This desk stand from the 1950's era was Altec's early model and is perfect for just about any screw on microphone or mic clip you can think of. It's quite a bit larger and far heavier than your typical desk stand of the day and you rarely ever see these even on Ebay. They only pop up a few times a year.
This stand had a very unique look and was an Altec signature design. The tear drop style 24A bases are built like a tank. The aluminum is uber thick and and indestructible. Made by the Alcoa company and sold via Altec. A perfect base for the Altec 639 "Birdcage" model microphone. Also great for the 632C and 633A models as well. You can technically mate any screw on mic or mic clip onto this stand. These are very hard to tip over.
I should note that this stand has original dark green paint. It's hardly perfect but nice considering it's age. Typical paint chips, scuff marks and scratches but zero corrosion or fractures. Probably one of the nicer examples I have ever personally seen.
The stand comes with it's original tightening screw and the 3 felt pads that are in excellent condition.
The stand with mic is appx 12 inches tall X 5 1/2 inches wide when raised fully upright. Otherwise it stands about 10 inches tall at lower angle.
This is going to look great anywhere it's displayed.
