Fender Studio Bass Amp Six 6L6 Vintage Tube Head for Guitar / Bass Bassman Showman Super Twin killer

For sale is my Fender Studio Bass Amp.

This started life as a combo and was converted into a head at some point before I got it. The original combos were extremely heavy and impractical to move. They were also particularly top-heavy, and prone to tipping over easily.

Being converted to a head makes this amp much easier to navigate, and really opens up the possibilities of using alternate Cabinet choices.

-Hand wired in original Fender style, no PCB, and MASSIVE Transformers.

-Built in Parametric EQ for extremely wide adjustment potential.

-Sounds absolutely amazing for Guitar and Bass, but also works extremely well for Keys, Synth, Vocals, etc. Exceptional depth, clarity, and detail. Can be smooth and fluid, or easily punchy and bold.

-Has extremely high clean headroom potential, but is more than capable of producing a wonderful overdrive even at lower volumes thanks to a thoughtfully designed balance of the Pre amp Gain controls interaction with the Master Volume.

Unlike most large/high power amps, this Gem sounds phenomenal even at low volumes. However as the volume increases, you become enveloped in a very three-dimensional and powerful wave of sonic bliss.

I have used this amp for everything from amplifying folk acoustics, to blues and classic rock, all the way into experimental and extreme Metal when paired with pedals. It never let me down.

The easy to use and thoughtful range of EQ allows VAST tonal control with a simple yet effective and intuitive layout.

This amp is (in my opinion) the ultimate pedal platform.

Having owned an extensive amount of vintage Fenders from Pre CBS and after, I can say without hesitation this is my absolute favorite Fender amp ever.

In fact, I would say this is one of my favorite amps ever regardless of brand. It is an incredible design, and has continued to outperform anything I have compared it to.

This amp is particularly worth looking into for those who love the Bassman, Showman, or Twins, but wanted more of everything: more Wattage/headroom, more detail and punch, more EQ range, more Preamp gain available, etc. This amp absolutely delivers.

It is also worth noting that this amp is extremely similar to the Super Twin (almost identical). The main difference being the lack of the dedicated “Distortion” knob on the Studio Bass Amp.

To be honest, the “Distortion” on the Super Twin was not at all a good or usable feature in my opinion and experience...

I will genuinely miss this amp, but I am planning to move soon and can’t bring everything with me. It has served me well, and I know the next owner will be thrilled.

The Value of these amps simply can not be matched in this day and age. You would pay more nowadays just for the type, quality, and size of the Transformers in this Amp.

Notes on the Condition:

The head conversion was done by someone before I received the Amp. They cut the lower portion of the combo off, and made a new bottom.

The bottom is completely solid and secure, and was covered in a gray, durable carpet material with feet attached. The bottom edge is covered with Black Duct tape to blend with the rest of the Tolex. I’m sure the choice of Carpet for the very bottom was used to facilitate durability for gigging. The Carpet is not really visible when the amp is sitting on top of a Cab.

The bottom silver boarder line is Silver Duct tape made to match the Chrome trim around the Grill cloth.

The Standby switch was replaced at some point with a better quality switch.

The switch was wired in reverse though, so now you pull it ‘Down’ to take the amp off of Standby. I never corrected this because it works perfectly.

The Faceplate has a few small dents in the lip where it meets the Chrome. The faceplate on these amps are notoriously thin and this is fairly common and easy to bend back, but I simply never got around to it.

I wanted to point these details out because the previous owner did not make any of this known to me and hid all they could in their pictures. I just want to be completely transparent about what you are getting.

The amp Runs strong, and without issue, but has little aesthetic imperfections that would be very easy to address if you wanted.

The amp itself performs phenomenally and sounds absolutely amazing, and feels rock solid and dependable.

I have all of the original power Tubes, but I replaced one in the amp, because the guide at the base of the one tube cracked. I will repair the guide before sending everything out, but I have not tested that particular tube yet.

I simply replaced it with a similar tube, and the amp has run without issue and sounds great, so I will send it with both and leave that up to you.
