Classic Vintage Recording Studio & Engineering of Salisbury, MD is selling its Vintage 1930's Western Electric 600a Carbon Mic! Check out a sample of this mic in action in the youtube video at the bottom of the page - I recorded it using a power supply of my own design through a vintage tube mic preamp.

The mic has been fully restored and works wonderfully as shown by the recording in the video. The mic will need a carbon mic power supply for operation (NOT INCLUDED) - I'm also selling a vintage 1931 power supply that will work with this or just about any carbon mic - so be sure to check out my other listings on Reverb. The power supplies are extremely easy to make (I've made 3 for customers so far) and schematics are freely available on the web.

The Western Electric 600a was one of the highest quality double button carbon mics money could buy - this one is in incredible condition and has been restored for use in a recording studio, interactive museum, or for the collector of rare and exotic vintage items. Comes with the original and hard-to-find front diaphragm cover. The all-original buttons are brass with high-end compressed carbon disc threaded inserts that only the best carbon mics had. Vintage NOS carbon installed in the buttons; measured and balanced perfectly according to original specs. All new hand-polished aluminum diaphragm tensioned to original specs - only the best carbon mics had diaphrams that could be manually tensioned for flatter frequency response than non-adjustable models.

The mic comes with a vintage "RAL" chrome plated carbon mic suspension ring with vintage springs in excellent condition. The ring has 5/8" 20tpi pipe threads for mounting to the included stand. The included covers for the mic appear to be nickel plated and are also in excellent condition - they appear to be made by the old American or Universal mic companies for use specifically with carbon mics. You may recognize the design from the 1939 film "The Wizard of Oz" - specifically the scene when the curtain is pulled back on the Wizard.

Comes with an incredible and unique vintage mic stand - has the 5/8" 20tpi pipe threads that some old stands had before the newer standard of 5/8"-27tpi - it fits perfectly with the vintage RAL carbon mic ring that also has 5/8" 20tpi pipe threads. Looks to be nickel plated brass - but I'm not sure - it's the nicest mic stand I've ever seen, works perfectly, and is velvety smooth when adjusting.

Also includes vintage cloth-covered wire pictured and brand new reproduction cloth wire (not-pictured) as a backup or for primary use if you want to keep the vintage wire in perfect condition.

Condition: Excellent considering age. Minor pitting and scratches throughout.

No returns on vintage items like this - so be sure to ask all questions before purchase - I'd be happy to help! I will ship with the utmost care and this will go out with full insurance in multiple boxes.

Thanks for looking!
