A great piece of guitar history – the first year produced at Unsung and the only one (aside from modern models) with a Kalamazoo headstock, more akin to Gibson's book than the bitten-off ears of other Korean Epiphones. From 1990, a more unattractive headstock was used to avoid undercutting Gibson's market share. Gibson employees also consulted and assisted with QC in the first year, so the quality is exceptionally good. Some say the fretboard is made of Brazilian rosewood, but it's probably too dark and uniform for Brazil. Regardless, it looks fantastic. The guitar shows signs of wear, as befits a 47-year-old instrument, but overall, it's in excellent condition, freshly serviced by a luthier and set up with new 10-46 strings. In my opinion, it's a great alternative to Gibsons more than twice as expensive. Unlike modern Epiphones, it has plenty of mojo, character and feels like a proper musical instrument, not a decent guitar lacking something. Very nice top, I bought it as a Plus top, but I think in 1989 there was no such distinction, only Standard and Custom, and it's just a nice specimen of the Standard. Hard case included.
