The Details
The Vintage V6HMRLB Icon Series takes the familiar double-cutaway formula and gives it both a purposeful HSS makeover and a considerable head start in the battle-scars department. Its distressed Laguna Blue gloss finish is deliberately worn through in numerous areas, revealing the wood beneath and creating the appearance of a guitar that has already survived several tours, an unreliable van and at least one questionable backstage staircase.Underneath the theatre is a thoroughly practical instrument. The contoured solid body is paired with a bolt-on hard maple neck featuring Vintage's comfortable soft-C profile, a 25.5-inch scale, 22 medium frets and a 43mm GraphTech nut.The HSS pickup configuration comprises Wilkinson WVS Alnico V single coils at the neck and middle, joined by a Wilkinson WVC double-coil pickup at the bridge. A five-way selector, master volume and two tone controls provide plenty of scope for glassy cleans, bluesy neck tones, funky in-between sounds and considerably beefier rock leads.Wilkinson hardware continues with the vibrato bridge and WJ55 E-Z-Lok machine heads, the latter designed to improve string security and tuning stability. The photographs show this example with its extensive factory-distressed finish, aged-looking hardware, cream pickguard and Wilkinson pickups. The rear of the headstock is marked Made in Vietnam. Any additional marks from normal use should be considered alongside the intentionally relic'd finish and judged from the photographs.A wonderfully characterful HSS machine for blues, indie, rock, funk and beyond, with the reassuring advantage that the first ding has already happened many times over.
