About this listing
The 1973-74 SG Standard is now in stock! Featuring a mahogany body, a 3-piece mahogany neck, a high-quality ebony fingerboard, a small pickguard, escutcheon-mounted pickups, and a large rectangular bridge, this SG Standard?from the transitional period between model changes?has arrived. It features a narrow neck with a grip of just the right thickness, making it easy to play even for those with smaller hands. Itfs equipped with Super Humbucker pickups. These high-output pickups?known as gTar Backsh because their backs are filled with black resin?are characterized by a sweet, resonant tone and a wide dynamic range. Originally finished in Cherry Red, the color has faded over time to a shade closer to brown. While the degree of fading varies slightly between the body top and back, the original color is still visible beneath the pickguard and under the escutcheon?a detail that fans will appreciate. Overall, there are scratches, dents, playing wear, and buckle marks consistent with its age. There are marks on either side of the headstockfs taper that appear to be from a stand, and the clear coat on the back of the neck and the elbow area has chipped away in places, causing some areas to lose their luster. In addition, rust and tarnish are visible on the hardware. The pots and wiring have been replaced; the tailpiece has been replaced with a GOTHO model; the control knobs have been replaced; and the screws for the pickups, escutcheons, and back panel have each been replaced in some areas. Inside the hard case, there is peeling from the body to the neck compartment, exposing the wood in some areas. Overall, the instrument shows signs of use commensurate with its age, but considering its vintage, it appears to be in good condition.
