Jupiter JTB1180 Bass Trombone

Hello! This is a Jupiter JTB1180 bass trombone. The horn is an independent bass trombone in the standard Bb/F/Gb/D set-up with a 10” bell and a .562 bore. It also has a thumb support (though the pad has a tear so it’s wrapped in gaffer tape). Here are some details for this particular horn and my experience with it.

PROS

-Solid sound control. The horn holds up well with some gas as well as when playing soft. You can be as delicate as you need, or peel some paint.

-The nickel slide is super light. Getting around the horn is very easy, and fast passages never feel like a workout. Slide in in good shape, and the action is an 8/10.

-Well balanced weight-wise. My hand has never been in pain from using this instrument even after hours of use.

-Trigger assemble is very comfortable and easy to hold.

CONS

-Some dings and scratches from use on the bell. Does not affect sound but it looks a little ugly.

-Rotors can be a little clanky and need fairly regular cleaning.

-The screw in the center of the Gb rotor connecting the linkage can get loose. I check on it from time to time.

-The horn needs a lot of air to get the best response.

The horn will come in a case which is missing one foot pad (marked in pictures). The case has 2 cary handles which are both fine. Additionally, I can include a Stork Custom 1 mouthpiece if requested.

This horn would find the best home with a doubler, a musician in need of a back-up, or a musician looking to get into bass trombone without breaking the bank. It certainly beats out clone horns, and I feel it can compete with some more expensive instruments in terms of consistency of sound.
