Getting your hands on a specimen from the Paul's Guitar 85 Limited Private Stock — a limited-run mini-series restricted to a mere 85 guitars — is truly something special. This is not only due to the strict limitation and the resulting rarity value, but primarily because this model is an exceptionally sonorous PRS, boasting superb playability and a fantastic aesthetic. Naturally, this is because the boss himself personally oversaw the creation of this exclusive collector's model. For the "Paul's 85" Paul Reed Smith personally reserved — among other things — maple tops featuring particularly beautiful grain patterns and he also hand-selected the remaining tonewoods from the PRS Wood Vault. However, what sets this particular "Paul's 85" apart from that limited series is the fact that it is the prototype (see email from PRS for confirmation). This means not only that this guitar has passed through the master's own hands and was played extensively by him, but also that you are dealing with a true "one-off" — a unique instrument whose specifications differ significantly from those of the series production. For instance, the super-thin nitrocellulose finish in a charcoal-like custom color immediately stands out, allowing the wood grain to be both seen and felt. ...and distinct features are also evident in the choice of tonewoods: the fretboard and headstock veneer are crafted from East Indian Rosewood (Dalbergia latifolia) — rather than Honduran Rosewood as used on the production model. A special selection of woods was also utilized for the body and neck: the body is constructed from extremely rare and particularly attractively figured "African Ribbon Striped" Mahogany (Khaya ivorensis), while the neck is made of Peruvian Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla) — considered one of the world's most coveted mahogany varieties, known for its very limited availability. Furthermore, this prototype features elegant hybrid hardware and Ivoroid tuning pegs. It is immediately apparent that this prototype takes things up a notch — even compared to the standard production model — in terms of luxurious wood selection and exclusivity; a level of opulence that, for cost reasons alone, simply could not be maintained in mass production. ...and now for the inner values of this musical masterpiece: the highly comfortable "Wide Fat" neck profile adheres precisely to Paul's specifications and fits the hand perfectly. Particularly when combined with a characteristically ideal PRS weight of just 3460 grams the result is truly magnificent playability. Sonically, the guitar offers superb sustain as well as a balanced, vibrant and enormously resonant fundamental tone. Signal transmission to the amp is handled by TCI humbuckers — which on this specific model can be split into singlecoils via two small toggle switches. Given these specifications it comes as no surprise that this guitar plays in the Champions League when it comes to sound, too. Consequently, playing this guitar "loud" for the very first time is an absolutely exhilarating experience. The pickups deliver a singing, full-bodied tone with just the right amount of punch — a quality that imbues the instrument with a truly unique character. Indeed, given its phenomenal playability and sonic attributes it would be incredibly difficult to relegate this unique prototype to a display case merely as a collector's item. This instrument begs to be played; this PRS guarantees the utmost playing pleasure! We are absolutely delighted to be able to offer you this exclusive dream guitar in collector's condition.
