The last guitar to leave the workshop, it needed a little work: re-gluing the heel/neck joint, re-gluing a cross brace under the top, polishing the frets, cleaning and conditioning the fingerboard, and adjusting the bridge saddle for comfortable action. It also has new Hannabach 28/43 strings.
"Höfner 514 'Concert' model from 1963, spruce solid top, laminated mahogany/flamed maple back and sides, mahogany two-piece neck with Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. The 514 was the model supplied to Selmer London under the name 'Flamenco'."
Built in 1969, this 56-year-old Höfner is in very, very good condition. The very thin nitrocellulose lacquer hasn't cracked. There's only a small chip on the edge of the back and sides, and a few marks on the top. The photos speak for themselves.
Solid Englemann spruce top, subtly flamed mahogany/maple laminate back and sides, two-piece mahogany neck with cross-grain grain, and Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and bridge, side dot inlays.
The 514 is intended as a "Flamenca" model, with a 50mm nut width, 25.5" scale length, 8.5cm body thickness, "Spanish-style" heel, fan bracing, and a slightly arched back. Very light, it resonates and vibrates strongly, with a crisp, bright highs and mids. It has a very dynamic character, and the action is now very comfortable at 2.75mm at the 12th fret.
As always, a trial in person is most welcome. I'm asking €280. Shipping is secure and will be sent via registered and insured mail.
