The 1963 Gibson Firebird "Reverse" was launched as a series of four models (I, III, V, and VII), all featuring a revolutionary neck-through-body construction designed by automotive stylist Ray Dietrich. While Vintage Sunburst was the standard finish for all models, they were also the first Gibsons to offer a range of 10 "custom colors".

Body Type: Solid body with a unique "reversed" asymmetrical shape (lower horn is longer than the upper horn).
Construction: Only 2 pieces of solid mahogany, configurates the entire instrument.
1 Neck Through pice + 2 mahogany "wings" glued to the sides.
Neck Profile: Authentic '63 Medium "C" shape.
Scale Length: 24.75" (628 mm).
Frets: 22 medium jumbo frets.
Nut: 1.687" width, typically made of Nylon.
Headstock: "Reverse" headstock with six-on-the-treble-side banjo-style tuners.
Pickups: Unique Firebird mini-humbuckers featuring Alnico V blade magnets rather than traditional pole pieces.
Controls and Electronics
Firebird I: 1 Volume, 1 Tone.
Firebird III, V, & VII: 2 Volume and 2 Tone controls with a 3-way toggle pickup selector.
Output: The original '63 pickups are known for a brighter, tighter voice compared to standard humbuckers, sitting tonally between a Fender single-coil and a Gibson PAF.
