In LI mode, it’s designed for low-impedance sources (line-level DSP rigs, keys, etc.): the signal remains full level and is converted to balanced, typically requiring less preamp gain.

Because it’s passive, you won’t damage anything if you choose the wrong mode, but level and frequency response may be affected. If you lose high-end in LI, you likely want DI.
