Up for grabs is this sexy 2022 Gibson Custom Shop Theodore in ebony. It has the gorgeous and intriguing walnut stripe running up and down the front and back of the body. As a Gibson collector and fanboy, I purchased this Theodore when they first dropped in 2022 because it's a Gibson Custom Shop with a very cool, novel shape, dug out of Ted McCarty's archives, and because my wife and I welcomed a baby boy into the world the year prior by the same name. I absolutely had to own one, and the ebony model spoke to me way more than the natural or cherry. The O N L Y reason I'm selling it is that I need to buy my 16-year-old daughter a car, and I know I would never use this guitar live. It pains me, but it could be to your benefit.
Since I've purchased it, it's mostly been a case queen. I've played it in my smoke-free studio, and even used it on a recording here at home to capture those rockin' P90 tones, but it has less than 10 hours of play time on its odometer. There are some polishing scratches and a few pick scratches, but they're all surface-level and minor. It does not have any buckle rash (I'm very conscious about what I wear when I play one of my guitars, and I never wear a belt when the urge to play strikes). If you're looking for a perfectly unblemished collector-quality Theodore, this one probably doesn't qualify. However, the scratches are extremely minor, and it's in excellent shape. I did my best to picture the polishing scratches, but it's hard to do with black guitars. It's never been gigged or dropped. It has left my house twice in its life, both times to get set up by the top luthier in Salt Lake City, including just this week. It's always played like butter, but I wanted it in great playing shape when I listed it.
When I bought it, the case arrived with a few scuffs on it. I didn't make a big deal about it because it took some doing for me to get this guitar at the time, but it's nothing major. It comes with all of its case candy, including its Custom Shop COA. I forgot to include it in the pictures, but this Theodore will also ship with the Gibson premium leather strap that it came with. It's a much nicer, hardier leather strap than the typical Gibson USA fare.
As for its fit and finish, it's light as a feather, and it has a thick '50s-style Gibson neck, which I absolutely adore. It's my preferred neck profile. The Custom P90s rip, and the rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays is luscious. I'm a very experienced Reverb seller. This Theodore will be packaged in its original Gibson shipping box and made safe for the road.
Remember, Gibson only made 318 of these Custom Shop Theodores, with 106 in each color. This is your chance to get your hands on a rare piece of Gibson history, and an absolutely stellar guitar that won't break your back when you play it.
