Some fuzzes try to sound beautiful.

The Creepy Fingers Fuzz Nugget was never interested in that.

Inspired by the primitive 1.5V-powered fuzz boxes of the 1960s, the Fuzz Nugget was designed to capture the raw, nasty and gloriously unstable character of early garage fuzz — the kind of sound that feels less like a polished effect and more like an old amplifier having a nervous breakdown.

It is an intentionally unruly circuit: aggressive, compressed, harmonically dirty and full of the strange texture that made those primitive early fuzzes so fascinating in the first place.

There is something particularly appealing about the Fuzz Nugget because it doesn’t try to modernize that character into something polite. It embraces the ugly side of vintage fuzz — the sputter, the grind, the grain, the way individual notes can seem to tear themselves apart as they decay.

The name itself is a nod to the Nuggets garage-rock compilations, and that connection tells you almost everything you need to know about its personality.

This is the sound of obscure singles, cheap amplifiers, primitive recording studios and guitars pushed far beyond what their designers originally intended.

And despite its deliberately primitive inspiration, the Fuzz Nugget comes from the hands of Creepy Fingers, one of those boutique builders whose pedals have developed a cult following among players who go far beyond the usual vintage-fuzz clichés.

If your idea of the perfect fuzz is something perfectly behaved, perfectly symmetrical and perfectly predictable, look elsewhere.

If you want the sound of a forgotten 1960s garage band exploding through a battered amplifier at maximum volume — this is the Fuzz Nugget.
