2020 Fender Player Jazzmaster CME Exclusive – Shell Pink

Here’s a seriously cool take on one of Fender’s most iconic offset designs. This 2020 Player Jazzmaster was a Chicago Music Exchange exclusive, finished in killer Shell Pink and loaded with a set of Fender Pure Vintage ’65 Jazzmaster pickups.

The ’65 pickups bring this guitar much closer to the classic Jazzmaster sound: big, open cleans, glassy highs, woody lows and that unmistakable slightly rude, jangly bite when you start pushing an amp. The neck pickup can get warm, round and almost smoky, while the bridge has plenty of cut and attitude for garage rock, punk, surf and indie. Kick both pickups together and there’s a huge amount of texture available, from shimmering clean rhythm sounds to thick walls of fuzz and overdrive.

This Player model keeps the electronics streamlined and does not have the traditional Jazzmaster rhythm circuit. Instead, you get straightforward controls and a 4-way selector with series/parallel switching, giving you everything from classic open Jazzmaster sounds to a thicker, punchier series setting that really comes alive with gain.

There’s a reason Jazzmasters became weapons of choice for players like J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr., Kevin Shields and Bilinda Butcher of My Bloody Valentine, Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth, Elvis Costello, Nels Cline, Robert Smith, and plenty of other players who like their guitars a little left of center. They can be beautiful and articulate one minute and an absolute noise machine the next.

The Shell Pink finish makes this one especially hard to ignore. It has that perfect combination of vintage Fender cool and slightly obnoxious rock & roll swagger that just works on a Jazzmaster.

This guitar is in great condition and plays and sounds exactly like a Jazzmaster should: lively, resonant, jangly, punchy and ready to get weird when you want it to.
