5 mm cast bronze shell, which, combined with the hardware, gives the drum a total weight of 12 kg (26.5 lbs).
For reference, the standard thickness for heavy bronze and brass snare drums is 3 mm, a standard made famous by the legendary Tama Bell Brass from the 1980s.
Nowadays, different brands use the name “Bell Brass” for brass snare drums, including the Gretsch Bell Brass. This can cause some confusion, since the original Tama Bell Brass was actually made from cast bronze.
