The Martin D-45 is Martin Guitars' top-of-the-line model, born from a custom order by country singer Gene Autry. After 91 units were manufactured between 1933 and 1942, production was revived in 1968 by Mike Longworth, who was active as a public relations and researcher for Martin Guitars. The Martin Style 45 is not produced if the materials meeting the specifications cannot be supplied. It is always the highest quality series. This particular instrument is a 1980 model. Features include a spruce top, Indian rosewood sides and back, mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard and bridge, original gold Schaller tuners, vertical headstock logo, hexagon fingerboard inlays, abalone rosette and trim, square truss rod, large rosewood bridge plate, mosaic backstrip, and non-scalloped X-bracing. A thick, punchy sound. The well-defined, impactful tone that projects forward, with just the right amount of sparkle and sharpness, is characteristic of this era's '45. The end pin has been enlarged to jack size, but the pickup has been removed and replaced with a wooden pin of the same size. The pickguard has been replaced with one that is slightly oversized from the original, but it remains in beautiful condition with no Martin cracks. The bridge pins have been replaced with recent D45 pins, and the original pins are included in the case (one is missing, but still usable). There are capo marks at each position on the back of the neck, some pick scratches around the pickguard and soundhole, and some fine scratches and weather checking, but the original finish is maintained and there are no cracks in the wood. It is clear that this guitar has been cherished and played extensively. The neck has a very slight forward bow and is almost straight, in the best condition for an SQ. At the 12th fret, the 6th string is 3.0mm and the 1st string is 2.0mm, a folky setup. This guitar is in excellent playing condition and ready for serious use. With its non-scalloped neck, SQ neck, and solid abalone inlay, it possesses a tone and style unique to this era; the coveted instrument of that time can only be experienced with a guitar from this period. Please come and try it out. Original blue case included.
