Gibson / 1966 J-45 Cherry Red "BGN" Stamped

This is a 1966 custom cherry red J-45.
Some of you may be wondering about the model year.

Custom Gibson acoustics (primarily cherry red and ebony black) generally have serial dates from 1967 to 1969.

The key to this question is the "BGN" stamp on the back of the headstock.

This stamp was not added by a later owner, but rather appears to have been added at the Gibson factory. "BGN" is an identification mark engraved on the back of the headstock at the Gibson factory, and is believed to stand for "Bargain." This indicates that the guitar was offered at a significant discount to employees, and is said to have never been released onto the general market. For this reason, we believe that this particular guitar was sold in cherry red to employees, as it would have been unsuitable for general distribution.

While its market value may have been low at the time,
custom-colored 1966 Date guitars are now almost impossible to find, making this an extremely rare item.

While there is a crack repair on the back of the body, the only part replaced was the nut (the original plastic nut is also included), and the original cherry red finish remains intact. The guitar is in good condition, including playability.

This is a highly recommended guitar that also has collectible aspects.

[Condition]
- String Height at the 12th Fret: 6th String 2.2mm, 1st String 1.7mm
- Adjustable saddles allow for custom string height adjustment.
- Traces of bridge re-gluing.
- Crack repair on the lower left back of the body. There is a step, but the back has been reinforced with a patch and does not affect playability.
- Nut replaced. (Original nut included.)
