In the original version, the +48 goes to both the microphone and the preamp, which often triggered protection on the preamps. A modification was made so that the +48 only works with the microphone and does not block the preamp.
The N452 power supply was designed for the FET series microphones like U87 U89 KM84 and many others KM83/84/85/86/88. Actually it is usable for nearly all Neumann Schoeps AKG Beyerdynamic Telefunken and Sennheiser mics which need phantom power.
