Fender Telecaster Thinline 1971 - Kelly Green

Check out this ultra-rare 1971 Fender Telecaster Thinline in collector-grade condition, featuring its original Kelly Green finish and a striking purple pearloid pickguard.

Shortly after the Thinline model debuted in the summer of 1968, Fender introduced a range of exclusive custom colors for this series, including Salmon, Hot Pink, Canary Yellow, Lavender Lilac, Jet Black, and, of course, Kelly Green, as seen here. Among these rare finishes, Kelly Green is arguably the rarest, further enhanced by the inclusion of the original purple pearloid pickguard, used on only a select few examples.

The guitar’s body combines mahogany with an alder center block, making it lightweight at just (3.3 kg / 7.27lbs).

It still retains its original frets and has had only a nut replacement (to replace a brass nut). The tuners are also original, and the neck bears a 3APR71B stamp.

All electronics are untouched and in perfect working order. The original Switchcraft switch and CTS pots date to the 34th week of 1966, as Fender sourced a large batch of these pots in 1966 for use well into 1971-72. Both original pickups remain intact with their factory windings, delivering a strong and vibrant output.

The purple pearloid pickguard not only adds to the guitar’s aesthetic appeal but also has a unique history. Fender did not standardize the mounting hole pattern for these guards, so screw placement varies among the few surviving examples. Please note there’s a small route on the neck side to allow truss rod access.

The Kelly Green gloss finish is 100% original, with no touchups or overspray, and the factory "paint stick" markings are still visible in the neck pocket together with inspector name (G TORRES). Cosmetic wear is minimal, limited to a few minor finish chips along the body perimeter and a small area of wear on the top where the forearm rests.

This rare gem comes with its Fender black tolex hardshell case featuring the iconic "tail" logo.
