I'm a big fan of these Remic mics. I first heard one when a youth string quartet came into the venue where I was working. During soundcheck, I was blown away by the sound of the kid's cello and I asked him what kind of a pickup he was using. He showed me his Remic cello mic, and I was hooked.

I immediately got the grand piano mics from them and started touring with them. Then I got hired by Netflix for a concert they wanted to do with a 12-piece string ensemble to promote their show "Queen Charlotte - A Bridgerton Story". I needed some additional mics to supplement the DPAs and Audio-Technicas that I had, so I bought the cello and violin mics from Remic, as well. This gave me the opportunity to compare all 3.

On an outdoor stage on a plaza in front of the Seahawks stadium, it was pretty breezy out with traffic noise nearby. I found that the DPAs were the most sensitive to the wind and noise leakage, the ATs not so much and the Remics were the best at rejecting the unwanted noise while allowing the low tones of the contrabasses to some through. Ditto the cello mic.

The nice thing about the bass mic is that, with the foam mounting method they use, it allows you a choice of 3 different mounting placements - under the tailpiece, under the bridge, or under the fingerboard. Of course each of these placements will result in a different tonal balance, and you can experiment based on your playing style and the type of music you're playing.

One of the attached pics shows a cello mic ONLY as a size comparison.
