Up for sale is a classic vintage 14" x 5" chrome-over-steel snare drum from Drum Mate, produced in Japan by Star (Hoshino Gakki)—the precursor to TAMA Drums—in the late 1960s to early 1970s.
The shell and hardware have been cleaned and polished. The chrome shines up great, showing only normal, minor vintage pitting and patina expected from a drum of this era.
Details & Features:
Shell & Configuration: 14" x 5" thin steel shell with central ridge, 6-lug layout.
Strainer / Throw-off: Original lever mechanism functions smoothly and engages fully. (Note: The tension locking arm screw has been replaced with a non-original screw, see photos).
Internal Muffler: Original internal dial tone control/muffler is intact and works properly.
Batter Head: Fitted with an Evans Genera batter head and standard snare wires.
Resonant Head: Remo Diplomat Snare Side head. Completely intact with no cracks or holes, though it has a small indentation/bump
Sound: Bright, crisp attack with a warm, punchy bite—fantastic for studio work, funk, or retro setups.
