Octaver? I barely know her!
Up for sale is an incredibly rare, first-year-of-production Boss OC-2 "Octaver" pedal. While guitarists like my dad love it, any serious bass player looking at this knows exactly what it is: the ultimate bass player's dream pedal. My dad loved tone that filled a room, and this is the exact analog secret weapon famously used by players from Prince to Pino Palladino. It’s a road-tested piece of Texas music history that appears brand new. Now it's looking to be loved for its personality and character, not just its looks.
The Collector Mojo: 1982 "Octaver" Rarity
This is a highly prized, investment-grade piece of Boss history for a few specific reasons:
- The Original "Octaver" Spelling: When Boss first released the pedal in 1982, they printed "Octaver" [rhymes with 'belabor'] on the enclosure. By early 1984, they officially changed the name to "Octave" [which doesn't rhyme with anything]. This pedal features the rare, original spelling.
- 1982 First-Era Production: Verified by the internal batch code/serial number 220900, this pedal rolled out of the legendary factory in Japan in September 1982.
- Black Label Pedigree: Features the original, intact Made-in-Japan Black Label on the bottom plate.
- Original Boss Vintage Foil: That little silver foil "BOSS a sound innovator" tag was a promotional sticker given away by Roland/Boss in the late 1970s and early 1980s. When musicians bought new gear back then, they would often slap those foil labels directly onto their favorite pedals. The fact that it is right there by the AC jack means this pedal has been safely preserved exactly as it was set up in the early '80s.
Condition:
- Aesthetics: This unit is in damn-near pristine cosmetic condition. The brown finish is nearly immaculate. It still features a period-correct, vintage foil "BOSS a sound innovator" sticker on the top plate near the AC jack, showing just a bit of light vintage wear around its edges.
- Function: Evaluated over three days by Austin Vintage Guitars with player testing and bench testing. Each piece was considered authentic and functional enough to receive a purchase offer.
Provenance & History: This pedal comes directly from my late father's private collection. He was a dedicated, working Central Texas musician - a true road warrior - who lovingly collected and cared for gear for over 50 years. It has been safely stored and is now ready to find its way onto a new board to create more music.
