Di Giorgio Tarrega 1971 Série Artística - Brazilian Rosewood Historic Bossa Nova
The real deal from the golden era! This one dates from 1971, only two years apart from João Gilberto’s, which was from 1969 (first year of production).
One of the most iconic classical guitars of all time. The sound of bossa nova. This is the exact model used by João Gilberto throughout the major part of his career. Other great musicians such as Milton Nascimento, Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Dorival Caymmi, Lenine also have used this model.
This is a truly piece of history, extremely rare and signed by Reinaldo Proetti Di Giorgio himself, the luthier responsible for making all the high-end guitars used by Brazilian musicians during the bossa nova era.
This model started being produced in 1969 and it’s still being made to this day, although the quality of woods and construction dropped considerably by the end of the 70s. The golden era of Di Giorgio was from the late 50s to the early 70s, when every bossa nova and MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) musician was using a Di Giorgio guitar, such as João Gilberto, Tom Jobim, Baden Powell, Edu Lobo, Milton Nascimento, Gal Costa, Gilberto Gil, Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso, Dorival Caymmi, among many others.
The woods are just the best you can expect from a top quality Brazilian classical guitar: solid red cedar on the top and Brazilian rosewood on the back and sides.
The high-end Di Giorgio guitars from this era were made with two types of headstock: 1) all black with white binding (aka “pata negra”, the rarest type); 2) carved wood with white binding (more common). The first one became legendary and extremely hard to find! A perfect symbol of bossa nova, known in Brazil as “pata negra” (“black paw”). João Gilberto’s was a “pata negra”, just like this one!
The original tuners are also something else and working perfectly!
This guitar is 100% original and has a certificate of authenticity by Di Giorgio acknowledging its originality, signed by Rita Proetti, Reinaldo’s daughter, who’s running Di Giorgio nowadays.
This guitar not only has an amazing sound and plays great, but is highly rare and collectible! You won’t find another one this close to João Gilberto’s. It’s extremely rare even in Brazil.
It has had a neck reset at some point of its life, because of a crack on the neck to body joint, which has been properly repaired many years ago, as shown in the last picture. It plays perfect! It has a few dents and chips around the body and neck, but that‘s something you should expect from a 52 year old guitar. This one is a player and ready for much more! Great sounding guitar!
Original hardshell case included!
