A tribute to the rare transitional models from 1965 In early 1965, the original Firebird design underwent several different iterations. One of the significant changes was that the headstock was given a "non-reverse" shape. Unlike the original Reverse Firebird headstock design, which consisted of two layers with a holly veneer, the new headstock was flat like a platypus's bill. The Platypus-style Firebird was equipped with six tuning machines arranged in a row, unlike the "banjo-style" tuning machines used on earlier Firebird models. The Firebird Platypus pays homage to these rare transitional models. It features a mahogany body with a glued-on neck and the look of a traditional Reverse Firebird body with a continuous neck. The Platypus-style headstock is equipped with a Graph Tech saddle and Grover Mini Rotomatic tuning machines. Individual volume and tone controls allow for further sound customization, and of course, the pickguard features the legendary hot-stamped Firebird graphic.
